- Kaguya-sama continues to be a wickedly funny romantic comedy. In Volume 3, we get better acquainted with two people we've only seen a bit of up to now. There is Yu Ishigami, the student council treasurer. He's an insecure, nerdy fellow who has developed the notion that Kaguya is a serial killer who sees him as her next victim. Then, there is Ai Hayasaka, Kaguya's personnel assistant. She is one put-upon young lady, having to jump to Kaguya's whims. One of the funniest stories has her trying to keep Chika away when Kaguya is in an odd situation with Miyuki. Another has Hayasaka convincing Kaguya to use nail polish. This puts Miyuki in a spot, unsure whether he should say anything. After all, a girl liking a compliment gets a guy man points. Trouble is, if she doesn't take the remark well, it can be seen as sexual harassment. Miyuki is asked by a student for romantic advice and develops an elaborate (and self-serving) plan. Fortunately, Love Detective Chika intervenes. Finally, everyone has to worry about exams and their rankings. Kaguya-sama is one of the best series I've come across this year and its modest sales rank is a shame; if you want to see great battles of wits and a strong "will they or won't they" storyline, this series is hard to beat.
